Introducing Little Betsy Wetsy

Emmie Betsy reading her “Velveteen Rabbit”.

The Ideal Toy Company of New York City designed this charming little 7-1/2″ all vinyl chubby baby doll in 1957 to compete with other baby dolls such as Vogue’s Ginnette and Cosmopolitan’s Baby Ginger.   There were other 8-9″ baby dolls manufactured during the 1950s/1960s by companies such as American Character, Uneeda, Unique and Effanbee.

Independent doll clothing companies would frequently use unmarked versions of many baby dolls to create and market their own designs.   I have not seen an unmarked Little Betsy Wetsy.

Her little back is marked Ideal 8.
